About Us
Our story
Windsor Uniting Church traces its story to about 1812, when a small Methodist class meeting began in the newly established Hawkesbury settlement. Land donated by the Rev Samuel Marsden became the site of the first Wesleyan chapel, opened in 1820, and a larger chapel followed in 1839. Wesley Hall was built beside it in 1861.
On 23 December 1874 a fire swept through the centre of Windsor, destroying the church and parsonage. The congregation began rebuilding almost immediately: the foundation stone of the present church was laid in December 1875, and the new neo-Gothic church was opened in 1876. Wesley Hall, which survived the fire, still stands beside it.
The church and hall are listed on the NSW State Heritage Register, and the congregation became part of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977.
Who we are
We are a warm and welcoming community of faith in the heart of Windsor. Our vision is to:
- witness to all people
- welcome all people
- worship God with joy, courage, boldness and grace.
We offer prayer, friendship, fellowship and study groups, pastoral care, and baptisms, weddings and funerals.
What we believe
The Uniting Church in Australia was formed on 22 June 1977 through the union of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational churches. We hold in common with the Church of every age the historic creeds of the Christian faith, and we are guided by the Basis of Union.
The Uniting Church seeks to be an open, ecumenical and serving church: one that welcomes all who seek to know Christ, values its relationships with other Christian churches, and expresses the gospel in deed as well as in word.
